New Years Resolution – 2012

Some of you might be wondering why I am considering my New Years Resolution for 2012, when we aren’t even close to 2012 starting. There are exactly 39 days to go until 2012 starts, and the best way to start a habit is to do it for a continuous period of 30 days. Why start those 30 days on January 1st, 2011, and possibly have fallen off before the end of January, when you can start the implementation process in December, and hopefully have worked out any kinks in the system.

I haven’t really defined any specific habits I want to form in 2012, but I do know that I would like to lose some weight, and thus cut the risks of heart disease and the like, but I would also like to possibly get a blog to last for a period of 12 months, with at least one decent, thought-provoking post each week. Another possibility is to learn how to design websites, and possibly make some money from them, and one last thing is to learn how to use my digital camera to take much better photographs.

I read it is best to only implement one habit at a time, so that you don’t get lost in changing multiple things at once. Because I have many skills and achievements I want to implement in 2012, I really need to create a schedule of what I want to achieve, how to achieve it, and when I can start it.

Weight loss is a long-term goal, and I would like to start that as early as possible, so initially I would like to work on the habit of fitness, attending the gym regularly, and improving my eating habits. After weight loss, the next habit I would like to implement is the blogging, I want to write 52 decent posts at the end of 2012, and hopefully that will inspire me to write more, and I will end up with over 100 posts on my blog at the end of 2012.

After weight loss and blogging, I’m not sure whether website design or photography is my next important habit I would like to develop. I think regular photography would be an easier habit to form over web design, but we shall see. I might not even get the opportunity to implement those habits until later in the year. So I will rate where I want those habits to fit in, after implementing the first two, and sticking with them.

As part of all these habits I want to form in 2012, I plan to share them here on the blog, as a part of accountability, so you can keep me ticking forward, progressing on my journey towards a healthier, happier lifestyle.
