TimeFest 2011
Time lapse photography from a camera that is mounted on a Kessler Crane.
Time lapse photography is something that I am looking forward to learning about in the future, and being able to do this on a “crane” that moves would make it something even more special. One day, when I get my tripod I will learn this amazing technique.
15 Blogging Tools
Having attempted blogging many times over on a few different websites, many of them started personally by myself, but never really getting off the ground, I was surprised to stumble across this article on the ProBlogger website. It contains a list of resources and websites that are may or may not be suitable to your blogging workflow and blog itself.
I have implemented a number of these resources, but haven’t really tested them all out. I do hope to at least check them out at somestage during my blogging lifetime, preferably sooner rather than later. I’m not going to go into detail of each one, as the respective website does an excellent job at describing their product and it’s uses.
- Hello Bar - I have implemented it on a project I initially started, but haven’t really got it fully off the ground. It is the next blog to I plan to dedicate a significant amount of time towards.
- Lanyrd - Looks to be interesting for those of us who haven’t been able to make it to some of the major conferences around the world.
- HTML Ipsum - This is new to me, however I have been using something similar. I will have to look at this in more depth when creating my next website design
- BlogDash - Again this is a new product to me, but if you are like me and wanting to know the latest about a particular area, it looks as though information of your choice is pushed to you.
- TinyLetter - A simple to use newsletter subscription website that allows you to create email newsletters to forward to your subscribers. I haven’t seen this before.
- Timely - This tool analyses your tweets and determines the best time based on engagement with other Twitter users.
- TinEye - New to me, however seems to be useful as it will help determine the original owner of the image so you can give credit where credit is due.
- Wilyo - Resizes Flickr images that are licenced under Creative Commons. You can search and insert the image and the proper credit.
- Stella - Useful for developer’s to determine the speed of their site, and debug as well. I just ran a test for this blog, and found out that it isn’t that great. Time to do some work.
- Vokle - Allows you to run your own video talk show right from your blog.
- NameChk - Useful for a new blogger to find out what usenames are available on over 160 of the most -popular sites.
- My Blog Guest - A directory of blogs looking for guest posts, and for writers looking to write some guest posts.
- Color Scheme Designer - Easily work out a colour scheme for your website, and for those who won’t make decisions, click “Random”
- My eCover Maker - For those who write eBooks, this will turn your cover into a professional looking book cover in minutes.
- MeasureIt - A Firefox Addon that will determine the size of areas of your website so that you get images just the right size.
I’ve only used a handful of these websites and apps, and I will certainly be investing some time in their uses during the design phase of a friends website. As I use them, I will do my best to write a short review about them, and let you know how they work out for me.
Church Whitescreen
The following videos are a clever use of video technology for promoting a sermon series at a church. I wouldn’t recommend going this far for all churches, but some larger churches may be able to do this, if not for every sermon series, but at least a few of them.

Notes: Proverbs 1:1-7
- The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom
- Other books of Wisdom in the bible include Job, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs and some of the Psalms
- They focus primarily on the existence of evil and suffering
- The majority of the book of Proverbs is written by King Solomon, other smaller areas were contributed by others
- Wisdom that Solomon and the others come from God
- The aim of the book of Proverbs is given with 3 key words, wisdom, prudence and discretion
- As we move in our Christian lives, we are corrected and rebuked
- The Wisdom that is given in Proverbs will only benefit those who fear the Lord (Proverbs 9:10)
- The lord who is to be feared is the God that created all things
- Proverbs 3:19-20 lays out why it is the Israelite’s God that is the God to be feared
- Hebrews 1:1-3
- In the book of Matthew Jesus talks about one greater than Solomon is here, he is referring to himself because he was the one that gave Solomon his wisdom
- The Lord is only feared by those who trust and obey his word
- If the queen demands our respect, & has staff teaching the queens visitors how to behave, then how much more respect does God deserve?
- As Christians, are we people that tremble in awe of God?
- Successful living is not what we expect it to be, but in living in harmony with God’s design for the earth
- In order to achieve successful living, it is based on two layers, a foundation and action
- The foundation upon which it is built is a fear of the Lord
- Upon the foundation there are actions which are wisdom, prudence and discretion
- Upon those actions comes successful living
Notes: Philippians 2:1-18
These are my personal notes from the 10:30am Bible talk at Merrylands Anglican Church. The Bible readers were from Luke 14:1-11 and Philippians 2:1-18.
- It is a dangerous thing to name specific people in the church, however Paul does so in his letter to the Philippians.
- We are at a flash point in this letter where Paul is calling people out.
- Paul is encouraging the church of Philippi to be a church of fellowship and harmony
- Harmony is seen to be a united body. Paul calls the members of this church to be united.
- Harmony is like a Roman Phalanx, a group of soldiers acting together for a single cause.
- Paul is filled with the Holy Spirit and is still filled with joy, even though the church of Philippi is not in a harmonious state
- In modern society, therapist target the actions rather than motives for correcting behaviour, Paul does the opposite, and targetted their motives rather than their actions.
- Vain Conceit
- this became the forefront of the people of Philippi
- People were looking out for their own interests, rather than the interests of those around them
- as a church we shouldn’t reflect the culture around us, but we should be a counter-culture
- God is a united being (i.e. Father, Son, & Holy Spirit)
- Humility
- this can only be achieved with humbleness
- It is a 4 level system
- Paul quotes a hymn to show a self-humbling motive of God
- This hymn is being used as a sledgehammer by Paul to get his point across
- Holiness
- The NT is not a Gospel of works
- If we are to be seen to working out our salvation we are actually living out our salvation
- We should be giving it flesh & bones
- God was working in their fellowship, as well as ours, to bring about a better fellowship
- Churches today rely on its members ticking boxes to meet an acceptable standard, however that is not what the NT calls for
- The NT calls for an approach based on the character of a person rather than ticking the boxes of objectives
