Executing Website Design

I have many, many ideas for WordPress child themes based on Genesis and Canvas, however I seem to get stuck when it comes to executing them into a working theme.  My website design skills certainly don’t match up to those who work on Genesis, or even those who have created many child themes of Genesis.

As I work through modifying/creating a child theme for WordPress built on Genesis by StudioPress, I plan to post updates of the code that I have used to create the theme that will eventually sit upon this very blog. I can modify the code to create the layout that I want, however I’m having trouble writing the CSS to turn the blog into something that I am happy with when it comes to the design.

I can work with the technical side of a theme, I can modify the HTML and have a working layout, however the CSS design side of web design fails me. Maybe I need to find a partner who can create the CSS to create the final design that I am happy with.

If you are a CSS designer, and would like to help a WP child themer who can modify Genesis code with the use of child themes, I would love to hear from you. We could possibly try creating some themes together to release for free, or via the StudioPress Theme market.

A Theme Update

I recently decided that the website needed a custom theme, a theme that is unique to the web, something that I crafted with my own hands, and this is the result.

A few facts about the theme:

  • Built on Genesis from StudioPress
  • One column WordPress theme
  • Adds post formats
  • Two navigation menu bars
  • Two columns for footer widgets

I might make some tweaks here and there with the theme, as I would like to release this theme to the community.  I feel that it is my best work to date, and would like to think it is worth sharing with the WordPress community, considering that there are rumours surround child themes being added to the WordPress theme directory.
